Them Bones

The hip bones connected to the....

I was scanning myself in the mirror, laughing at what I was wearing (a blue & white stripe shirt with my orange and red striped PJ's all Old Navy finds and I turned to the side and noticed my hip bone was actually visible through my clothes. Don't get me wrong...there is still a lot of padding left but all over my body I am starting to discover my inner frame, The one that has taken & carried the load of my excess weight for years.
I think in my head I always imagined my frame bigger, therefor justifying my overall size, until now. My frame, under this shrinking fat and layers of muscle is of normal.. not small, not manly...but normal size....fascinating!
I'm tall..and that won't change, much. I've lost an inch in the last few years but have spent most of my adult life being just a smidgen under 6' tall.
The point, vague at best, is that I think I am starting to question some of the excuses I've used through the years so I could accept myself and tolerate living at the size I was.
All part of the process I guess!

On a side note:
I received a reply via email to my fireman story that pretty much said I was being disrespectful to my husband in that post and went on to call me a few choice names. I don't know who sent it....but to those of you who read and comment often I will tell you this:

Hubby reviewed my post...and laughed before I posted it (when I walked up to him in the store...I said "Sorry, I got distracted" and he said "I figured as much"...
and at the end of the day Hubby is who got to put my fire out if ya know what I'm saying...

So bite me anonymous e-mailer

  1. I can't believe someone wrote you a nasty email about that!!! We are all human, we can freely look around and appreciate other people (and their hot bodies) - it CERTAINLY doesn't mean that we ACT on them - sheesh! That would make us cavemen and women lol. Here's to husband's putting out fires - rarrr ;-)

  2. OMG, I almost pee'd my pants. At 55 I look all I want. And there are some really sweet looking younguns. I just prefer my worn in hubby-like my cozy socks. Some people just need to chill. I missed reading your post yesterday because I really thought it meant a "real" cougar was lose in Oregon. I really need to clear my brain:-)

  3. Jen I guess some people choose to transfer their own unhappiness and insecurities to others, good for you to stand up to them. Congrats on the hips, and I look forward to meeting you in person at the support group :)

  4. I don't personally find any man attractive except my husband and I am not often tempted to look, but I can't believe that anyone who felt the same would ever send you an email calling you names. How hypocritical.

Congrats on the other part of the post, though :)

  5. Jen, I thought the firefighter post was so great and funny that I sent it to my (also happily married) sister. We both thought it was hysterical. Keep writing about this stuff!

  6. Jeez, Jen,

What to say about this. First up that someone was upset enough to email you about it? That's insane. What the heck is wrong with these people. Even throughout the whole tone of the 'cougar' post you could tell it was tongue in cheek - just one of those funny yet wonderful moments when you realise, Hey, I'm married, I love my man more than anything else in the world.. but I am attractive to other men too. We all need that every now and again to affirm we are a woman with attitude.

To the anonymous who sent you that email: go stick your holier than thou attitude up your clacker and leave our girl alone!!! We love you, Jen.

PS I had no idea you were that tall lol. You got it ALL going on!! Nice NSV too with the hip bones! Yayyy

  7. Thank you all!
It means the world to me :)

    You guys ROCK!
And so does my hubby, Gene.
After 24 years together I love that he & I can have a good laugh.

  8. Honestly some people take things way to far...looking at or being looked at does not mean you are about to leave your hubby and have a romp! It means that people can admire beauty unashamedly and there is nothing wrong with harmless flirting...

As for the hip bones, that is great and I didn't realise you were that tall! Keep up the great work Jen! We love ya

  9. I just had to read the fireman post and this post to my BF, we both agree that you can be amazingly happy in your relationship and still find other people attractive (if you are breathing and have a pulse!!) Also when you have been overweight and have felt so ugly and unhappy in your own skin (like me) it is awesome to know that members of the opposite sex find your attractive, it is a huge ego boost and let's face it; we all need one of those every now and then!! Oh and congrats on seeing them bones!

  10. I read your cougar post to my husband just after I read it and he laughed too! As he would say..sounds like your rude poster needs a good seeing to to get rid of that pent up frustration. I ended up with a porn comment on my blog...It took me a while to figure out how to delete!!

I am impressed by the hip bones and jealous too!! :) Mine might take surgery to show up.

I will be driving past you on my way south on Tuesday. I will give you a wave as I go speeding by.

  12. I agree with the others!! There is nothing wrong in looking!! My DH is a huge flirt, but I know that we will always come home to me & vice versa. Don't let the anonymous commenter get you down. Some people have nothing better to do than to judge others!

PS) I thought the posting was about a real cougar too!!
